To be honest, pretty much every time it rains heavily in the UAE it is mega-epic, because of the poorly executed drainage system, so flash floods are a thing. Oftentimes, you drive in some super dried-up areas and there is a sign warning you about the flash floods, so you just wonder how could it be. Well, it can very well be when the stormy weather shows up, and it does come more and more often with the climate changing.
When we think of the UAE’s climate, we picture endless blue skies, intense summer heat, and dry desert winds. But in recent years, the weather has become more unpredictable—heavier rains, flash floods, unusual fog patterns, and even the occasional hailstorm. It’s not just nature doing its thing—climate change is playing a growing role in shaping how we experience weather across the Emirates.
Emergency Message
Anyhow, the authorities sent us a very nice warning message at 6 am saying that the weather is fluctuating and we shall stay home unless we urgently need to be somewhere. By that time, we had already woken up once to put the buckets everywhere on the leaky windows (that was about 4-30 AM when the storm was banging with the lightning and the thunder)…

Driving After The Heavy Rain
Later on, I had to get to the Trade Center for work and thankfully it wasn’t raining at the moment when I left… however, the roads were more reminding of the rivers. Hundreds of cars were drowned left and right, and I had to drive through some pretty deep waters but thankfully the Pajero made it without issues.
Here are some flash photos from the balcony of the same day when the weather turned worse again.

Dealing with Flash Floods in the UAE can be dangerous, so always execute caution.
Thanks for stopping by,
Promise I’ll write more often.
